Immunisation case studies

The Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre has a range of interesting case studies and other educational articles written by SAEFVIC, the Victorian vaccine safety service. Case studies include vaccine preventable diseases and adverse events following immunisation.

Vaccine introduction timeline

The immunisation schedule is evolving rapidly so it is important to have a tool that briefly documents the year and month when vaccine schedule changes occur. The historical snapshot of the introduction of vaccines and schedule changes in Victoria and Australia from 1804 to current day records these events.

Vaccine errors

Review data on notified vaccine related errors in Victoria by the type of error reported. Consider your vaccine administration practice to prevent vaccine errors. Importantly, ensure new nurses and doctors are appropriately supervised if vaccination is a new practice for them.

Vaccine related errors can be reported to the Immunisation Section for confidential advice on management of the error.
  • View current data on vaccine errors notified in Victoria by the type of error. There were 125 vaccine errors notified in 2010 compared with 220 errors in 2015.
  • SAEFVIC is Victoria’s central reporting service for any significant adverse events following immunisation (AEFI). Receive expert advice for children and adults who have experienced an AEFI.
