Update - June 2017

Ministerial Statements of Expectations for 2016-17 for the health portfolio have been extended until no later than 31 December 2017. Regulators will be required to report on progress to achieve regulatory improvements after the extended Ministerial Statements of Expectations conclude.

Ministerial Statements of Expectations

Ministerial Statements of Expectations for regulators articulate Ministers' expectations for regulator performance and improvement. The Ministerial Statements of Expectations, which cover the period 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017, also set out Ministers' expectations regarding each regulator's contribution to the Victorian Government's Regulation Reform Program.

In the Health Portfolio 2016-17 Ministerial Statements of Expectations were issued to the following regulators:

  • Tobacco Control Unit, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Food Safety Unit, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Water Program, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Private Hospitals Branch, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Drugs and Poisons Regulation Unit, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Unit, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Environmental Health Regulation and Compliance Section - cooling towers and water delivery systems, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Environmental Health Regulation and Compliance Section - pest control operators, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Environmental Health Regulation and Compliance Section - radiation safety, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Victorian Pharmacy Authority (Statutory Authority)
  • Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (Statutory Authority)

In the Housing, Disability and Ageing Portfolio 2016-17 Ministerial Statements of Expectations were issued to the following regulators:

  • Standards and Regulation Unit, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Supported Residential Services and Accommodation Support Unit, Department of Health and Human Services

Regulators are required to provide a response to the 2016-17 Ministerial Statements of Expectations outlining actions they will undertake to give effect to Ministers' expectations. Reporting on progress to achieve the expectations will be undertaken shortly after the conclusion of the 2016-17 financial year.
