Diversity planning and practice is a strategic population planning initiative that encourages HACC services to respond to and respect the diverse needs and circumstances of people seeking services.

In 2012 the Department of Health & Human Services created two new roles to support HACC diversity planning and practice: Access and Support workers and HACC diversity advisers.

Access and Support workers

Access and Support (A&S) is a HACC-funded activity that supports HACC-eligible people who have complex needs due to their cultural background or circumstances. A&S workers support these people access a range of services. The HACC program manual describes A&S activity.

The department has developed two resources to support the implementation of A&S:

HACC diversity advisers

HACC diversity advisers facilitate diversity planning and implementation in every departmental region.

Diversity planning and practice review

In 2014 the department reviewed the implementation of HACC diversity planning and practice, including agency diversity planning, the HACC diversity adviser role and the HACC Access and Support role.
