On the 25th and 26th of May 2017 up to 165 clinicians and managers from the 77 public health services that have a residential aged care program attended our Striving for care excellence in a complex system forum held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, South Wharf. Topics presented at the event included end of life care, pain management, quality use of medicines, infection control as well as key updates from DHHS and the Commonwealth Department of Health. We have kindly received consent from some of the presenters to publish their presentations.
The future is now! - ageing and aged care board and executive forum 8 May 2014
In collaboration with the Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA) the department hosted a one-day forum focusing on organisational readiness for the Commonwealth's aged care reforms. Comprehensive health assessment of older people training
In 2010, the department commissioned the development and delivery of a multidisciplinary training course in the comprehensive health assessment of older people.
During 2010-13 over 1500 Victorian public sector nurses and health care professionals working in acute, residential and community aged care settings benefited from this training. Evaluation of the training program showed it was transformational in its success and a summary report is available to download from this page.
Dementia forum - 14 and 15 November 2013
This forum covered such topics as sexual disinhibition, aggression, wandering, persistent and disruptive vocalisation and other behavioural issues around dementia. Contact the department for copies of the associated presentations.
Quality indicator forum 5 and 6 June 2013 - using quality indicators for improved resident outcomes
This interactive 2-day forum focused on improving our organisational performance and outcomes for residents with the use of quality indicator data. With the Commonwealth Government planning to publish quality indicators for residential aged care services on the My Aged Care website and the implementation of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards it was a good time to refresh knowledge and learn new skills. Contact the department for copies of the associated presentations.
