Residents of an SRS have the same rights and responsibilities as other members of the community and should be empowered to exercise those rights and responsibilities. Proprietors of SRS can support residents to be involved in decision making about their own health, and ensure residents have access to health information.

Other ways you can help residents gain positive health outcomes is to ensure the food provided to your residents is safe to eat, that you are familiar with what to do in the event of an infectious diseases outbreak (such as gastro), and that your SRS has adequate emergency management procedures in place. Remember also to include any food and nutrition-related health information (such as food likes and dislikes, intolerances or allergies) in your residents' support plans, as well as information that will assist you to support residents in events of emergency or illness.
