2020 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is commemorated on 15 June each year to focus public attention on the significance of elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue.

This year, the Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with Seniors Rights Victoria, hosted a webinar addressing the need to prevent and respond to elder abuse, particularly during and post the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The webinar included addresses from the Hon. Luke Donnellan MP, Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, the Hon. Gabrielle Williams MP, Minister for Prevention of Family Violence, and Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior Victorians and Ambassador for Elder Abuse Prevention, as well as a keynote presentation by Professor Joseph Ibrahim (MBBS, GradCHE, PhD, FAFPHM, FRACP), followed by a panel discussion and questions.

A video recording of this webinar is below.
