The Department of Health and Human Services (the department) runs regular training sessions and provides online resources for skill building in governance, leadership, risk management and more.

Health system and governance induction training 2019

The department hosted an annual induction workshop for new and reappointed directors to the boards of public health services and public hospitals. Workshop sessions were held across metro Melbourne and regional Victoria throughout October and November 2019.

All board members of public hospitals (including multi purpose services), public health services and other health boards (such as Forensicare and Ambulance Victoria) were invited to attend the event.

Clinical Governance Training

    Preventing and managing inappropriate behaviours in healthcare 2018

    The department hosted a forum titled 'Preventing and managing inappropriate behaviours in healthcare: Board chairperson, director, and CEO roles in positive culture and complaints management' on 23 August 2018 at Etihad Stadium.

    The forum was well attended, with over 200 people attending in person and via live webcast on the day.

    The forum was designed to strengthen the understanding of how to manage inappropriate conduct in the workplace, for board chairpersons, directors and CEOs. Download the day's agenda and two presentations.

    Risk management workshop for board members 2018

    This workshop is an interactive program facilitated by VMIA Principal Consultants, designed to build skills in applying risk management principles.
