Effective waste management is dependent on the waste management infrastructure, from bins to ensure appropriate segregation at the point of generation, to loading docks for storage of waste prior to removal off site.
Some capital projects, such as the redevelopment of the Frankston Hospital, have included infrastructure for on-site processing of organics.
The Capital Projects and Service Planning Waste management guideline is intended to:
- assist with the design of sustainable waste management systems within facilities
- provide guidance in responding to waste management issues in hospitals associated with planning, construction and ongoing waste management systems for handling waste and recyclable materials.
Capital Health and Service Planning provides information on best practice in the planning and design phases of major capital investment projects in terms of waste management.
