Enrolling with a new accrediting agency

Hospitals and health services are requested to inform the Department of Health & Human Services if they intend to enrol with a new accrediting agency.

Health services must maintain an affiliation with an accrediting agency in order to remain accredited. They should notify the department of their intention to change agencies, and the proposed timing of this change, to ensure continuity of their accreditation status.

Accreditation of outsourced or contracted services

Health service accreditation surveys should include all outsourced or contracted third-party services, which must also comply with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, as they are operating on behalf of the health service.

All contracts for outsourced services must include the requirements of the NSQHS Standards relevant to their particular service area, including the provision of pathology, imaging, dental, sterilisation, or cleaning services.

In addition, health services’ governance mechanisms should ensure that any outsourced services meet their requirements for safety and quality, and are fully integrated into their performance monitoring systems.
