State-funded specialist mental health services provide community-based and inpatient care for three main population groups in Victoria: children and adolescents (0–18 years), adults (16–64 years) and older people (older than 65 years).

Government-funded clinical mental health services include: 21 adult mental health services (AMHS), 17 aged persons mental health services, 13 child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), Orygen Youth Health and a number of youth services statewide.
