Secretary's directions to Class A cemetery trusts

The Secretary to the department has issued directions to Class A cemetery trusts under s. 18 of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003 with respect to buildings or structures for the viewing or temporary refrigerated storage of bodily remains.

The directions have been issued to ensure that any future proposals for the development and operation of these kinds of facilities are managed in a consistent manner across the cemeteries sector. The directions set out the requirements applicable to any trust that plans to construct and operate these types of facilities.

The directions came into effect on 1 September 2016 and are available at Secretary's directions to cemetery trusts.
