Our climate is changing, and there is widespread agreement among climate scientists that the human influence on the climate system is clear.

The World Health Organization recognises that climate change is a significant and emerging threat to human health and wellbeing.

The Victorian Government aims to support the community to adapt to climate change. The department is starting a program to improve the disaster resilience of community service organisations and local governments, partly funded through the Natural Disaster Resilience Grants. The program will run over 2 years.

Municipal public health and wellbeing planning, and climate change

Under the Climate Change Act 2010, local government is required to ‘have regard to climate change’ when preparing a municipal public health and wellbeing plan. The department has developed guidance to support local government in this area, called Municipal public health and wellbeing planning – having regard to climate change.
