Changes to the 2018 National Immunisation Program (NIP) will come into effect on 1 July 2018. The following information will assist in preparations for the schedule changes.

Schedule changes from 1 July 2018

ActHIB®- Hib vaccine at 18 months

  • Children who have already had 4 doses of any Hib containing vaccine do not require a 5th dose at the 18 month schedule point.
  • From 1 January 2019 children presenting at 18 months of age will not have had Menitorix at 12 months and will routinely receive ActHIB as their 4th Hib dose.
Pneumococcal

Prevenar®13 at 2*, 4 & 6 months

*can be given from 6 weeks

Prevenar®13 at 2*, 4 and 12 months

  • clinically recommended in the second year of life to reduce disease incidence
  • children presenting for the 12 month schedule point over the next 6 months who have already received 3 doses should receive a 4th dose

Note: Medically at risk children will continue to receive Prevenar®13 vaccine at 2*, 4, 6 and 12 months

Pre-allocation of Nimenrix®  and vaccine ordering

Nimenrix®

A pre- allocation of Nimenrix stock will be sent to high volume providers (Councils, Aboriginal and Community Health Services and most GP's) late June to ensure new stock is available for the schedule change prior to the 1 July start date.

For low volume GP providers who have not been pre-allocated stock and for ongoing orders please use the updated Government vaccine order form when requesting your next routine vaccine order.

ActHIB®

Order small quantities of stock for catch-up use only when you place your next routine order on the Government vaccine order form.

In mid-December order stock for routine administration to all children at 18 months of age from 1 January 2019.

Prevenar®13
The schedule point change should not require any change to current ordering.

Menitorix® stock

Discard all Menitorix stock on 1 July to avoid errors by inadvertently giving it to a child.
