If the parent/carer provides documents showing the child has received 'homeopathic immunisation’:

To enrol

Do not enrol the child until an acceptable Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement is provided.

Advise the parent that 'homeopathic immunisation' is not a recognised form of immunisation under the legislation.

Provide parent/carer with information on how to obtain an AIR Immunisation History Statement and/or necessary vaccinations.

The general practitioner (GP) or immunisation nurse who provides any required vaccines must provide AIR with this information so AIR can update their records.

The parent must then obtain an updated AIR Immunisation History Statement, and provide a copy to your service.

After enrolment

Provide parent/carer with relevant resource/s.

The ‘Homeopathy and vaccination fact sheet’ produced by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCRIS) provides excellent information on this topic, see the NCRIS fact sheet page on the NCRIS website.

If the family is experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage

To enrol

Consult the parent to find out if they qualify for the 16-week grace period. If so, the child can commence at your service while your service takes reasonable steps to obtain the AIR statement from the parent/carer.

You should provide the parent/carer with information on how to obtain an AIR statement and/or necessary vaccinations.
