Water suppliers and water storage managers must prepare, implement and review risk management plans for their water supply systems.
Risk management plans are audited by independent auditors at periods declared by the Department of Heath and Human Services. More information on the audit process and audit requirements can be found in Safe Drinking Water Act 2003 risk management plan regulatory audit - Guidance information.
Auditors must be certified under the Exemplar Global Incorporated (formerly known as RABQSA) Water Quality Management Systems auditor certification scheme. A list of certified auditors can be found on the Exemplar Global website.
Water agencies must obtain approval from the department to use a certified auditor to audit their risk management plan.
To apply for approval water agencies must complete the Risk management plan auditor application form. Prospective auditors must complete the Risk management plan conflict of interest declaration form for applicable water agencies they propose to audit. These two forms, along with any associated documents, must be submitted to the department for review prior to potential approval of an auditor.
