Advance care planning involves making a plan for future health and personal care should a person lose their decision-making capacity.
Advance care planning captures peoples’ values and wishes. It enables them to continue to influence treatment decisions, even when they can no longer actively participate.
Simplifying medical treatment decision making and advance care planning
Government is committed to giving statutory recognition to advance care directives so Victorians can document their treatment preferences for existing and/or future conditions. This position paper provides information about the proposed legislation that will create a comprehensive framework so Victorians have confidence that their decisions about medical treatment will be respected.
