Each centre forms part of a coordinated approach to the implementation of statewide infection prevention and control.
These centres also provide extensive training and professional development programs for implementing infection control strategies in rural health services.
Rural infection centres
There are 5 rural infection control centres in Victoria. They are as follows:
- Barwon South rural infection control centre
- Gippsland rural infection control centre
- Grampians rural infection control centre
- Hume rural infection control centre
- Loddon Mallee rural infection control centre.
Practice group
The Rural Infection Control Practice Group (RICPRAC) is a collaborative network of rural infection control consultants and one representative from the Department of Health.
The objectives of the Rural Infection Control Practice Group are to:
- Develop and promote standardised Infection Prevention and Control resources.
- Provide a forum for liaison between Rural Infection Control Consultants.
- Provide the forum for collaborative and cost effective resource development in Rural Victoria.
- Develop and implement a three-year strategic plan, with annual review.
- Conduct inter-regional benchmarking projects.
