Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner (ATSIHP) immunisers study programs

The Chief Health Officer (CHO) has recognised a number of 'Immuniser programs of study' in Victoria. Some programs are Health Education Services Australia (HESA) AccreditedExternal Link against the National Immunisation Education Framework for Health Professionals.

Registered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner (ATSIHP) may complete any CHO-recognised 'Immuniser program of study', if the education provider offers the program to registered ATSIHPs.

Registered ATSIHP immunisers must successfully complete any mandated training modules for vaccines that are not included within a CHO-recognised ‘Immuniser program of study’ before administering these vaccines.

Recognised programs of study provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the role of an immuniser in Victoria and assist them in developing the knowledge and clinical skills required to safely deliver an immunisation service.

Japanese encephalitis eLearning module

Registered ATSIHP immunisers who are administering the JE vaccine to persons recommended for vaccination in Victoria must first complete the Japanese encephalitis eLearning module that has been approved by the Deputy Chief Health Officer – Communicable Disease. The module is free and available at the Victorian Immunisation Learning HubExternal Link .

Mpox (monkeypox) eLearning module

Registered ATSIHP immunisers who are administering the mpox (monkeypox) vaccine to persons recommended for vaccination in Victoria must first complete the mpox (monkeypox) eLearning module that has been approved by the Deputy Chief Health Officer – Communicable Disease. Respiratory syncytial virus immunisation training and competency requirements

Registered ATSIHP immunisers who are administering a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine to persons recommended for vaccination in Victoria must first complete any additional training and competency requirements.

Approved RSV vaccines and any additional immuniser training, competency and other requirements requirements are listed on the Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunisation webpage. Immunisers must comply with the requirements at the time of administration.
