Incidents of occupational violence and aggression in Victorian health services are significantly under-reported. Accurate reporting is essential to understand the breadth of the issue, and to develop better preventative strategies and controls. Reporting all incidents of violence and aggression, even those that do not require medical attention, helps to create a culture in our health services that does not tolerate violence and aggression.

The Victorian health incident management systemExternal Link (VHIMS) collects incident data for analysis and quality improvement. The Victorian Agency for Health InformationExternal Link (VAHI), established in 2017, manages the data collection, and with the department has agreed on a long-term strategy to improve the approach to local and statewide collection of incident and feedback information for Victorian health services.
